Our client, a large non-profit mental and behavioral health services provider, is hiring a Chief Nursing Officer. Support the delivery of medical care including medical quality, clinical performance and regulatory compliance across the diverse clinical and social support enterprise of the organization. Assist the organization in setting strategy for medical health care delivery and in developing, implementing and advancing the organization’s capabilities to deliver enhance health outcomes in pioneering ways.

The Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) is responsible for leadership in the areas of nursing/medical standards and the delivery of nursing services throughout the organization. Reporting to the Chief Medical Officer, the CNO will enhance quality of care for the 45,000 people served annually and will have direct access to the Board of Trustees, as appropriate. The CNO will play a leadership role in planning and implementing a standard model of nursing care based upon best nursing/medical practices and the unique needs of our clients; providing leadership for the agency’s response to medical needs; managing nursing budgets; and developing new patient services. The CNO will be a member of the organization’s Senior Leadership Team. Developing relationships and working collaboratively with, and travelling to, the various programs of the agency, is an important part of the job.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise 5-6 direct reports and provide temporary coverage until a permanent nursing supervisor in Community Behavioral Health division is established.
  • Maintain/initiate agency systems/standards for nursing/medical practice in accordance with national, state and local regulations and guidelines; Establish a best practice model of nursing care.
  • Formulate and implement new nursing/medical strategies related to but not limited to: patient safety and care, staff safety in their work environments, and environmental health and safety, in collaboration with Facilities Department, Corporate Compliance, and Program leadership.
  • Being up to date on CDC and NYS/NYC guidance, regulation and general information, overseeing site safety protocols, supporting responses to cases/outbreaks, managing testing, vaccination, and PPE supply, and communication.
  • Advance the use of long-acting injectable medications, as appropriate.
  • Enhance medication administration across the agency.
  • Provide leadership on infectious disease prevention and management.
  • Work directly with agency physicians, nurses, and leadership, and represent the agency’s nursing/medical perspective to uphold best practices in the delivery of care to our patients.
  • Work collaboratively with program and medical leadership to advance primary care, addiction services, and innovative mental health practices across the agency.
  • Work collaboratively with HR and other Departments to recruit/retain nursing and other medical staff and support career development, continuing education, and professional identity for nursing across the Jewish Board.
  • Identify opportunities for continuous quality improvement and change management related to these standards.
  • Stay informed of regulatory changes and industry best practices, implementing changes as needed.
  • Provide coverage, when necessary, in a leadership/management capacity across programs
  • Providing support and resources in a way that addresses the unique needs of employees and clients from diverse backgrounds, recognizing the impact of intersectionality on their experiences.
  • Serve as an agency spokesperson (internally/externally) on matters of nursing/medical and whenever directed to do so by the CMO/Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

Requirements

  • Active Registered Nurse license and have a degree in Healthcare.
  • 10 + years’ experience working in a nursing leadership role.
  • Strong knowledge of MS Office Suite (ex: Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, Teams)
  • Knowledge of electronic medical records systems required
  • The candidate should be able to read documents for analytical purposes such as computer information, software, computer graphic design programs, etc.
