Position Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Controller to join our dynamic team in the software industry. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in financial management and accounting within the tech sector and will play a crucial role in overseeing financial operations, ensuring compliance, and providing strategic guidance to support the company's growth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee all accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, collections, T&E management, general ledger, monthly close, and financial reporting.
  • Manage cash flow and treasury functions to ensure financial stability and liquidity.
  • Develop and implement financial policies, procedures, and controls to ensure accuracy and compliance with regulations.
  • Prepare and present monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports to executive management and stakeholders.
  • Assist with budgeting and forecasting processes, including variance analysis and reporting.
  • Identify and act upon opportunities for operational improvement, including automating routine processes, streamlining tech stack, and replacing outsourced providers where possible
  • Coordinate and oversee external audits and regulatory reporting requirements.
  • Provide strategic financial guidance and support to senior management for business planning and decision-making.
  • Analyze financial data and market trends to identify opportunities for growth and improvement.
  • Ensure the integrity and accuracy of financial information and systems.
  • Maintain relationships with external partners, including auditors, banks, and investors.
  • Mentor and develop the accounting team, promoting a culture of continuous improvement and professional growth.
  • Responsible to adhere to set internal controls.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA certification preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a financial management role within the software industry, with at least two years of leadership experience.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and accounting principles including revenue recognition (ASC 606), commission capitalization and R&D tax treatments.
  • Proven experience in budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
  • Excellent leadership and team management skills.
  • Proficiency in financial software and ERP systems, preferably NetSuite.
  • Advanced Excel skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple priorities.

This is a HYBRID role, with a combination of mostly remote work and the ability to meet periodically in-person in the Madison, WI area.

The salary for this role is $140,000 - $150,000 depending on experience.
