Controller – New Construction Development (Immediate Need)

Employment Type: Full-Time | On-Site

Base Salary: $140,000 - $160,000

On behalf of our client — a fast-growing, highly respected real estate development firm with multiple ground-up projects underway — we are seeking a proven Controller with deep construction development experience .

About the Opportunity

The Controller will step into a high-visibility, leadership role responsible for the full financial oversight of multiple active and pipeline construction projects . From day one, you’ll be counted on to drive project accounting, manage lender reporting, support executive financial strategy, and optimize systems during a period of aggressive growth.

Our client needs a hands-on financial operator who can keep pace with today's construction environment and proactively support project delivery.

Key Responsibilities

• Full ownership of project accounting from inception through closeout: budgets, job costing, WIP, draw schedules, reconciliations.
• Partner directly with the CFO, development executives, and construction managers on financial strategy, cash flow, forecasting, and project controls.
• Manage monthly lender draw processes, investor reporting, and audit preparation.
• Refine and implement best-in-class systems for internal controls, reporting, and compliance.
• Proactively identify financial risks across projects and present real-time solutions.
• Oversee and build out an internal accounting team as growth continues.

What We Are Looking For

• 8–15+ years of experience in real estate development or construction accounting leadership.
• MUST HAVE: Ground-up construction accounting expertise, including lender interaction and cost accounting at the project level.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related (CPA preferred but not required if experience is exceptional).
• Strong technical knowledge of GAAP, WIP, percentage-of-completion methods, and construction financing structures.
• Systems-savvy: Experience with industry-standard accounting platforms (Sage 300 CRE, Yardi, Viewpoint, Procore, etc.).
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-accountability environment where attention to detail and urgency are expected.
• Leadership DNA: Ability to lead by example, coach a team, and hold stakeholders accountable.
