Job Description

A privately owned construction company is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Controller to lead its accounting operations. This key leadership role will focus on managing all aspects of accounting, and compliance, while supporting the executive team with financial strategy and insights. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in construction accounting, demonstrate exceptional leadership skills, and possess an ability to work within a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Oversee all accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, job costing, and general ledger accounting.
• Ensure timely and accurate financial reporting to support strategic decision-making.
• Prepare, analyze, and manage annual budgets, project budgets, and financial forecasts.
• Monitor and identify budget variances to improve cost efficiency and project profitability.
• Conduct and oversee job cost analyses to ensure projects remain within scope and budget.
• Manage billing processes and oversee draw requests for construction projects.
• Ensure familiarity with construction-specific software and processes, such as percentage-of-completion accounting.
• Ensure compliance with GAAP, tax regulations, and industry-specific requirements.
• Prepare for internal and external audits, ensuring robust financial controls.
• Manage cash flow needs to meet day-to-day operational and project-specific funding requirements.
• Provide insights and recommendations on financial strategies to the ownership and leadership team.
• Lead and mentor the accounting team, ensuring ongoing professional development.
• Foster a collaborative team environment while maintaining high performance standards.
• Recommend and implement best-in-class financial and accounting practices.
• Identify and oversee improvements in accounting systems, processes, and reporting tools.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
• 10+ years of experience as a Controller
• Construction industry experience is a MUST
• Ability to work under pressure
• Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to work effectively with internal and external clients GOOD FIT FOR THE TEAM is huge!
• Team player – ability to work well with internal and external customers.
• Hands on Controller
• Ability to work under pressure in high paced environment.
