Job Description

We are a prominent California-Western USA-based multi-region agricultural producer, with established offices in Salinas and Heber California, as well as Baja Mexico. Currently, we are in the process of seeking a self-directed, experienced Corporate Controller to join our team.

The role of Corporate Controller encompasses comprehensive responsibilities related to general accounting, specifically focused on the balance sheet and income statement. This entails monthly financial reporting, as well as the formulation and supervision of internal control policies and procedures. You will also be in charge of supervising the month-end financial closure for all affiliated companies, along with overseeing reporting procedures. These responsibilities encompass financial planning and analysis, budget evaluations, reconciliation of diverse reports and financial information, execution of journal entries, and direct supervision of the accounting team.

This position demands a profound understanding of accounting principles and procedures. Proficiency in Excel and general ledger systems is essential, while familiarity with Famous software is a plus. The ability to excel within a fast-paced, high-pressure environment is crucial, as is the capacity to oversee remote functions and personnel effectively. You will be directly responsible for guiding the accounting team to achieve financial deadlines. Strong verbal and written communication skills are pivotal, and while bilingual proficiency in Spanish is preferred, it is not mandatory.

*Key Responsibilities: *
* The Role will involve overseeing both the accounting and finance departments, entailing the formulation of policies, procedures, and internal controls to safeguard the accuracy of financial outcomes, encompassing the planning, budgeting, and reporting of operational activities. As Corporate Controller, you will have the responsibility of establishing a scalable infrastructure to accommodate the needs of an evolving and expanding organization.
* Prepare consolidated financial statements and management reports.
* Ensure timely accurate monthly financial statements.
* Develop and manage the company’s budgeting and forecasting process
* Establish internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure the integrity of financial records.
* Ensure compliance with laws and regulations and industry standards.
* Develop and document financial policies and procedures.
* Manage cash flow and ensure the company has sufficient liquidity.
* Optimize working capital and manage debt compliance.
* Lead, mentor, and develop accounting and finance staff.
* You will be tasked with overseeing the accounting and finance teams, as well as all facets of accounting operations. This includes supervising financial planning and analysis, managing fixed assets, general accounting, and handling accounts payable and accounts receivable functions. As the Corporate Controller, your role includes ensuring the successful execution of policies, controls, and process improvement initiatives to effectively align with operational demands.
* Collaboration with the operations team is vital to guarantee precise and efficient internal controls, accounting processes, systems, and procedures. The Corporate Controller is expected to adopt an operations-centric approach, shaping financial reporting to cater to the needs of business leadership’s decision-making. The financial information and reports you generate should be pertinent and delivered promptly to facilitate informed choices.
* Your partnership with the CFO will be instrumental in ensuring the company’s financial stability, strategic growth, and adherence to audit requirements.
* Deliver thorough and well-documented analytical reports to the leadership team.
* Engage actively in the formulation and reinforcement of the company’s strategic plans.
* Compile comprehensive financial analyses and reports for individual departments as well as consolidated presentations. These reports will be presented to internal and external stakeholders, in both Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and non-GAAP formats as appropriate.
* Present financial information in “dashboard” format to the leadership team.
* Safeguard company assets by establishing, closely monitoring, and rigorously enforcing internal control measures.
* Continuously assess and verify the financial condition by conducting audits. This includes providing necessary information to external auditors as required or instructed by the CFO.
* Fulfill operational needs by organizing and assigning tasks to employees, ensuring their execution, and verifying the quality of their work. This involves managing task schedules, delegating responsibilities, and confirming that the outcomes meet the required standards.
* Sustain the financial team by engaging in activities such as recruiting, conducting interviews, providing orientation, and facilitating the training of new hires.
* Ensure the performance of the financial staff by offering guidance, counseling, and when necessary, disciplinary measures. Engage in coaching to support their professional development and participate in career planning discussions. Monitor and evaluate their performance on an annual basis, and address any concerns as they arise.
* Adhere to a stringent commitment to maintaining the utmost confidentiality concerning the company’s financial data and other confidential and proprietary information. Additionally, continuously cultivate and update your professional and technical knowledge.
* Perform any additional responsibilities as directed or assigned.

*Qualifications: *
* A bachelor’s Degree in accounting, finance, economics or equivalent is required. CPA, CMA, or MBA preferred and prior public accounting role in audit position preferred.
* Possessing a minimum of three years of experience as a Controller in a company with a gross revenue of at least 100 million.
* A minimum of 8 years of comprehensive experience in both accounting and finance.
* Having Controller experience with a workforce of at least 500 employees.
* Preferably Experience in the field of agriculture.
* Preferably, experience with a company engaged in multi-site production or manufacturing.
* Preferably Experience with operations spanning both Mexico and the USA.
* Significant expertise in accounting and finance, coupled with prior experience in a high-volume environment within the perishable food, agricultural, or manufacturing sector, is highly valued.
* Preferred Spanish / English Bilingual.

Pay: $100,000.00 - $140,000.00 per year
