JOB SUMMARY
Dir Corporate Communications is responsible for planning, directing, and coordinating the internal communications function for Baylor Scott and White Health (BSWH), which may include stakeholder and situational analysis, message development and delivery, measurement and effectiveness, and other structured communication activities. Directs and manages the preparation of internal employee communications that build positive awareness regarding topics such as business performance, future direction, and organizational policies. Develops and implements tailored communications programs based on organizational and business needs. Ensures that complex, detailed information is translated and summarized into key messages and clear communication content based on the targeted audience. Reviews and checks messaging and information for accuracy, timeliness, completeness, consistency, and relevance. Designs and directs the content and messaging of brochures, handbooks, training, letters, emails, and other formal communication vehicles intended for wide distribution. Develops and establishes communication plans, policies, and practices that support the organization’s communications strategy and is in alignment with BSWH business objectives.
A system Director translates and implements strategic plans and objectives for area of responsibility. Makes final decisions on operational matters and ensures achievement of objectives. Recommends policies and organizational changes for area. Plans and executes projects and initiatives that meet annual objectives. Erroneous decisions at this level tend to have negative impact on the success of the area, business unit, and possibly the overall organization's operations. Plans and directs the operations of a department or area, with responsibility for staffing, processes, budgets, and costs of the unit. Leads and advises subordinate(s) to meet schedules, resolve technical problems, and monitor performance. Has a larger, more complex organization or functional area than a manager. Often has one or more managers or supervisors reporting to the role.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE
Directs corporate communications for assigned area of responsibility for BSWH.
Recommends and implements strategic and operational plans and priorities for corporate communications aligned to BSWH overall business objectives.
Collaborates with senior leadership to understand their business challenges and identify appropriate communication solutions to help address their business needs.
Leads the development of organizational message platforms and determines appropriate vehicles and channels to disseminate messages across the healthcare system.
Partners with senior leadership, marketing, and other communications stakeholders to ensure that relevant content is communicated effectively, consistently, and clearly through appropriate system communication channels.
Directs communications supporting all areas of the organization, such as operational changes, clinical changes, quality and patient safety, patient experience, and regulatory needs.
Leads the development and implementation of internal crisis and issues management communication, as well as ensuring the appropriate communication for high-profile events.
Ensures the maintenance and development of internal rapid response processes and procedures including spokesperson protocol and preparation, communication flow, message development and delivery, and third-party endorsement.
Directs ongoing communication processes, including research, writing, editing, and production of targeted stakeholder communication aligned to BSWH overall branding and communication standards.
Leads the creation and review of executive, business, and other communications including presentations, position papers, articles, and speeches.
KEY SUCCESS FACTORS
Bachelor's degree in communication, business, or related field preferred.
5+ years of experience in communications, public relations, marketing, or related area.
1+ years of experience in a leadership role.
Experience working in a large, matrixed healthcare organization preferred.
Experience managing effective strategic communication, branding, marketing, and public relations plans that support achievement of organizational priorities.
Experience in effective message delivery and audience influence through multiple communication channels.
Excellent writing, editing, presentation, and facilitation skills.
Ability to redefine and reprioritize critical tasks and execute quickly.
