Overview: As the Controller-Oil and Gas (COG) of our Public Accounting firm, you will play a role in overseeing and optimizing the operational aspects of our oil and gas clients. This position requires a seasoned professional with a strong background in financial reporting, accounting operations and compliance. This role is ideal for a financial professional with strong leadership skills, multi-entity accounting experience and an understanding of GAAP and industry regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Strategic Leadership:

· Evaluate accounting systems and software, recommend process improvement.

· Manage and mentor staff ensuring efficient workflows and professional development.

· Provide clients with financial insights to support business decisions and growth strategies.

2. Operational Excellence:

· Streamline and optimize internal processes to enhance efficiency, productivity, and overall client service.

· Implement best practices in workflow management, resource allocation, and project delivery.

3. Financial Management:

· Manage financial reporting, including project accounting and cost management.

· Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.

· Ensure compliance with industry compliance requirements.

· Support month-end and year-end close process.

 

4. Team Leadership and Development:

· Build and lead a high-performing operations team, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and accountability.

· Provide guidance and mentorship to team members, promoting professional growth and development.

5. Client Service Enhancement:

· Collaborate with client-facing team members to ensure seamless service delivery and client satisfaction.

· Implement client feedback mechanisms and drive initiatives to improve the overall client experience.

6. Technology and Innovation:

· Stay abreast of industry trends and technological advancements, implementing tools and systems that enhance operational efficiency.

7. Compliance and Risk Management:

· Ensure Client’s compliance with GAAP, Tax regulations and industry specific financial reporting standards.

· Manage tax filings, audits, and financial risk management specifically to oil and gas clients.

8. Cross-Functional Collaboration:

· Foster effective communication and collaboration between GMP staff and the Client’s staff to ensure a cohesive and integrated approach to operations.

· Collaborate closely with partners, managers, and staff to address operational challenges and implement solutions.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field; master’s degree and/or CMA or CPA designation preferred.
  • Strong understanding of the Oil and Gas sector.
  • Experience with oil and gas specific software, preferably PAK energy.
  • Additional experience with QuickBooks is a plus.
  • Ability to analyze financial data, identify trends, forecast, and make data-driven recommendations.
