The Georgia Department of Public Health (DPH) is the lead agency in preventing disease, injury and disability; promoting health and well-being; and preparing for and responding to disasters from a health perspective. The mission has remained constant – to protect the lives of all Georgians. Today, DPH’s main functions include: Health Promotion and Disease Prevention, Maternal and Child Health, Infectious Disease and Immunization, Environmental Health, Epidemiology, Emergency Preparedness and Response, Emergency Medical Services, Pharmacy, Nursing, Volunteer Health Care, the Office of Health Equity, Vital Records, and the State Public Health Laboratory.

The Office of Quality, Performance, & Accreditation (OQPA) promotes and supports DPH’s performance improvement efforts. OQPA coordinates how DPH’s performance data are collected, shared, and used to identify investments needed to advance public health practice.

Job Responsibilities

OBJECTIVE

The main objective of this internship is to support the enhancement of an agency-wide public health performance management system ( The person in this position will help maintain an online database that tracks DPH’s key performance indicators. Additionally, the intern will assist in the development and maintenance of a data dashboard that graphically represents DPH’s data to make them more accessible and understandable.

Tasks May Include

  • Use the Knack software to maintain an online database for multiple users to track key DPH performance indicators.
  • Help manage the database.
  • Maintain and modify, as needed, a data dashboard to help DPH staff interpret and leverage their internal data.
  • Develop training to promote the use of the newly developed online database.
  • Attend team meeting, as time permits.

  • A dashboard providing at-a-glance views of DPH performance measures.
