The Simmons University Public Safety Officers (PSO) work in a team based environment to support the mission, goals and objectives of Simmons University and the Simmons University Public Safety Department. PSO's are non-sworn departmental members and are assigned to both patrol and dispatcher functions. Essential job functions include patrolling Simmons University residential and academic campuses to deter crime, observe and report abnormalities, respond to calls for service, provide walking escorts, assist police operations, conduct inspections of public safety equipment, and provide access control to University facilities. Dispatch assignments include taking emergency and routine calls, dispatching appropriate resources, monitoring electronic database systems, supporting University departments, communicating with local emergency services, and monitoring security and life safety systems. Additional duties include providing shift coverage, supporting campus events, and other duties as assigned. Required qualifications include a High School Diploma or GED and the ability to complete a comprehensive pre-employment background check, medical exam, drug and psychological testing. Preferred qualifications include CPR/First Aid/AED certification and relevant campus public safety or dispatch training. The role requires confidentiality, customer service skills, adaptability, and effective communication. The work environment involves shift availability 24/7 including nights, weekends, and holidays, and physical demands such as bending, stooping, standing, kneeling, walking, light lifting, and climbing stairs, with exposure to confined spaces and varying outdoor weather conditions.
