Job Description

The Peer Specialist is responsible for supporting individuals in their recovery journey by emphasizing the acquisition and development of skills needed for successful recovery. This role involves fostering therapeutic relationships with individuals and their families, sharing lived experiences, and providing peer support to encourage engagement and progress in treatment. Peer Specialists are integral to helping clients set and achieve recovery goals, access resources, and develop a supportive network within their community. Key responsibilities include assisting individuals in developing treatment plans and recovery goals, maintaining communication with referral sources and professionals, making referrals to outside resources, scheduling and providing transportation for treatment appointments, representing the agency professionally, assisting with medical referrals, documenting peer support services according to standards, providing crisis intervention, facilitating group education sessions, and completing required professional development training. The role requires lived experience with mental health or substance use services, a high school diploma or equivalent, passing background checks, and completion of state-approved training and certifications. Physical requirements include primarily sedentary work with occasional walking or standing and the ability to transport clients when necessary.
